Now boasting industry-leading traction, the enhancements are a response to customer feedback and have been introduced to ensure an even smoother and seamless operator experience and a superior paving finish.

The new updates come as standard on Volvo CE’s two compact paver models P2870D and P2820D, available in markets across Asia, China, Europe and International regions. They address demand for a better traction on unstable ground conditions, greater agility when paving and improved feeding capacity.

Best traction on the market

Volvo CE has introduced three measures to improve traction across all ground conditions on the P2870D paver. They include a new rear tire, with optimized profile, which results in the highest possible traction on soft ground conditions and proving to be unrivalled on the market. It replaces a tire which had great traction on hard surfaces, but limited properties on loose ground conditions.

The addition of a new front axle load distribution – which benefits from patented ride levelers in combination with a clever hydraulic setting – allows for 500 kg more weight compared to what was possible on the former model. This increased load is unbeatable on the market, proving that Volvo CE is once again at the forefront of paver productivity.

Thirdly, the use of Volvo’s Screed Assist functionality also contributes to improved traction. It secures a smooth start by automatically maximizing traction during the critical start phase. This functionality is intended only for customers working on difficult ground conditions and can be activated by a parameter setting.

Increased delivery and agility

The Volvo P2870D or P2820D pavers are commonly used on jobsites that require speedy results. Helping its customers to increase their uptime, therefore, Volvo CE has ensured a much faster function of the screed width changes and hopper operation with these new enhancements.

This comes from the addition of a new cylinder circuit pump which provides 45% more flow and a 50% improvement to the speed of vario extensions and hopper operation, thanks to new settings on the valve block. These faster reactions are helping to achieve even greater customer success, with speeds on par with any model on the market.

In addition, the new Smart Shift light function also helps to increase speed. It automates auger height, screed lift and floating mode in one sequence. This reduces three required actions into just one, when starting paving or stopping and maneuvering to another paving spot.

Better feeding capacity

The capacity and output provided by the single conveyor is improved thanks to higher scraper bars, making it a better choice than the dual conveyor for customers working on new road building projects. In addition, the cleaning blocks on the outer side of the chain have been increased to reduce wear and tear.

The final update to ensure improved feeding capacity is that the shape of the auger box has been optimized to improve material flow and reduce wear and tear in the conveyor tunnel.
